Welcome to my site! My name is Matt. I'm not to be confused with another better known Matt who plays for Bad Company, I have been playing for a slightly shorter amount of time! Nicknames seem to appear in Quasar, as a result, I'm sometimes known as Einstein (probably intended to be ironic...).

I started playing Quasar soon after my A level exams. Bedford Quasar had recently opened and I got a call from a friend who was going down to play and it sounded like fun, so I came along. I had a job over the summer and a car and all the money I earned went on petrol and Quasar games. Bedford does a set price for unlimited Quasar and for many weeks, I was playing all day at least one day a weekend and 2 or 3 nights a week. After weeks of this, as we got to know the staff, they suggested we start playing on Sunday evenings as this was when the REALLY good players practiced. And so we went. We went from being the top of the score sheets against public players to the bottom against all these guys. It was a bit of a shock, to be honest.

At about this time, I went to university in Liverpool and that could have been the end of my Quasar, but I vowed to keep it going. A month in to my Uni course, I got on a train and traveled to South Shields near Newcastle for my first tournament. I had no team, I was the only one out of the group of friends that I began playing with that went to South Shields and I barely knew anyone. But thanks to a great player by the name of Pepe, I got on a team and competed. I, of course, got completely ripped to pieces. I did, however, have a great time and I loved every minute.

A month later, Bedford held the pickem tournament. You can read my review of this but all I can say is that thanks to a great team, we won and it was good.

After my first term of university, I returned to Bedford for the holidays and resumed my constant Quasar playing. The only differences were that I have a job, so I have more time to play and that I knew a tiny bit more of how to play. I stopped playing in public games and concentrated on trying to improve by playing against better players. The staff, of course, were only too happy to play and to beat me and I had many many games of truly terrible games. There are also lots of people who are willing to help and advise. My thanks to Alan, Bigjim, Lorna and Mike to name just a few of the people who have offered me tips on how not to lose quite so badly...

That's about it really... The February tournament was great fun and for the first time, I felt like I had reached a sort of minimum standard you need to be to survive in a game against these guys. I am still there at Bedford whenever I get the chance. Still getting low score after low score but still listening and trying to improve.

One day!
